The Central Election Commission of Ukraine is asking for Hr 3.5 million to be allocated for the organization and holding of early local elections scheduled for March 18, 2012.

A corresponding decision was taken at the commission’s meeting on Thursday, the commission said in a posting on its website.

"After the corresponding discussion, the commission approved with a decree a motion to the Finance Ministry of Ukraine regarding the amount of subventions from the state budget of Ukraine to local budgets for 2012 required for the organization and holding of early local elections that were set by the Verkhovna Rada on March 18, 2012," the text read.

The approved motion envisages Hr 3.509 million for holding the 58th early elections in 23 regions of Ukraine.

Moreover, the Central Election Commission approved a temporary estimate worth a total of Hr 364,200 to implement a budget program on the functioning of the state register of voters for Q1, 2012.

As reported, on Dec. 19, 2011, the Central Election Commission estimated that the cost of holding elections for the Verkhovna Rada in 2012 would be Hr 1.212 billion.

The next parliamentary elections in Ukraine will be held in October 2012.
