You're reading: Central Election Commission registers Bukovel resort owner as independent parliamentary candidate

The Central Election Commission has registered the owner of the Bukovel ski resort, Oleksandr Shevchenko, as a self-nominated parliamentary candidate for single member constituency No. 83 of Ivano-Frankivsk region. 

Under a supplement to the resolution of the Central Election Commission, No. 170, dated August 6, 2012, Shevchenko was born on April 8, 1971 in the town of Kolomyia of Ivano-Frankivsk region, where he lives now.

His tourist complex Bukovel consists of 53 kilometers of ski runs, 16 passenger ropeways, and 373 snow guns. Up to 1,500 tourists can be accommodated simultaneously, and up to 14,500 people can ski on the mountain slopes at the same time.

As Shevchenko reported in March 2012, investors have pumped about $375 million into the development of Bukovel, and are ready to invest $1 billion in the development of ski infrastructure if Ukraine hosts the Winter Olympic Games in 2022.
