You're reading: CIS observation mission for elections in Ukraine to consist of 250 experts

The CIS observation mission for parliamentary elections in Ukraine will include 250 experts, including 35 people from the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (IPA), CIS IPA Council Secretary General Alexei Sergeyev has said.

According to the press service of the Central Election Commission (CEC), he announced this during his visit to Ukraine as part of a long-term monitoring of the elections to the Verkhovna Rada at a meeting with CEC Chairman Volodymyr Shapoval.

“Owing to this, we are planning to evenly cover with observation virtually the whole of Ukraine,” Sergeyev said.

He noted that the first results of observation were almost ready and that a preliminary report would be based on them.

He said that that in general, the electoral process was “normal, despite some difficulties related to the application of a new law.”

Sergeyev invited Shapoval to participate on November 22 in a meeting of the IPA CIS Council devoted to the analysis of the parliamentary elections in Ukraine.

The parliamentary elections in Ukraine are scheduled for October 28.
