You're reading: Commissioner: EU to continue scientific cooperation with Ukraine even if association agreement is not signed

Cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union in the field of science will continue regardless of whether the sides sign an association agreement at a summit in Vilnius, EU Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science Maire Geoghegan-Quinn has said.

“It’s not a question of entry or non-entry, but it’s a question of
our neighborhood and our cooperation on our continent. We pay a lot of
attention to working and interacting with our neighbors,” she told
journalists in Moscow after the ceremony to launch the EU-Russia Year of
Science 2014, when asked what countries could join the EU in the near
future and what the chances of Ukraine are.

She noted that preparations were underway for the Eastern Partnership
summit with Ukraine’s participation, but said that “what is adopted in
Vilnius will be adopted in Vilnius.”
