You're reading: Consideration of appeal against Landyk sentence postponed until September 26

Kyiv, July 19 – The High Specialized Court of Ukraine for Civil and Criminal Cases has postponed its consideration of an appeal against a verdict handed down to ex-deputy of Luhansk city council Roman Landyk, who was convicted of hooliganism against model Maria Korshunova on September 26.

As the court reported on Thursday, the hearing has been postponed because Landyk is ill.

As reported, on July 4, 2011, Landyk assaulted Korshunova in Bakkara, a restaurant in Luhansk. The prosecutor’s office of Luhansk region opened a criminal case against member of Luhansk City Council Roman Landyk on charges of disorderly conduct (Part 3 of Article 296) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Landyk was detained in Krasnodar in Russia. On August 11, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine sent a request to Russia’s PGO asking it to extradite Landyk to Ukraine.

On January 19, 2012, Leninsky regional court of Luhansk sentenced Landyk to three years of imprisonment, of which two years were suspended. He was set free in the court hall.

Landyk was obliged to repay legal costs and during the period of execution of the verdict, and he was prohibited from leaving Ukraine.

On June 27, the appeals court of Luhansk region upheld the court sentence.

Landyk is the son of Volodymyr Landyk, a member of the Regions Party’s faction in Ukraine’s parliament.
