You're reading: Constitutional Court postpones declaration of expenditures by lawmakers, officials by six months

The Constitutional Court of Ukraine has declared unconstitutional a provision of the law on the prevention of, and fight against corruption, according to which public officials and people's deputies were to declare their and their families' expenditures starting from the day the law took effect, on July 1, 2011.

According to a relevant court ruling, this provision took effect six months later than the abovementioned date – on January 1, 2012.

Fifty-three people’s deputies, including those from the Regions Party parliamentary faction, filed an inquiry at the court on the issue.

A judge of the Constitutional Court, Yuriy Baulin, said that accounts of expenditures of state and local officials in fact would be submitted on January 1, 2013, as "a person has to collect this information starting from January 1, 2012."
