ODESA - Odesa Prymorsky District Court has ruled to arrest First Deputy Head of Mykolaiv Regional State Administration Mykola Romanchuk for two months pending release on Hr 5.5 million bail, according to Interfax-Ukraine.

The official’s lawyers said they would appeal against the ruling.

As reported, on June 8, June 8, Odesa Prymorsky District Court held a hearing to select pre-trial restrictions for Romanchuk. The prosecution demanded to arrest him for two months pending Hr 20.3 million bail. The prosecution also asked to impose a travel ban on Romanchuk prohibiting him to leave Mykolaiv.

A day earlier Romanchuk discharged from Odesa Municipal Hospital No. 3.

Officers of the Investigatory Department of the Military Prosecutor’s Office of the Southern region and the Security Service of Ukraine earlier detained First Deputy Head of Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, Hero of Ukraine Mykola Romanchuk and three more officials for taking a $90,000 bribe.

At a hearing on Monday, June 6, during which the court was supposed to select pre-trial restrictions for Romanchuk, the official felt sick and was hospitalized. The judge announced a break for an indefinite period “until the defendant recovered.” Thus, a pre-trial restriction was not selected and the term of Romanchuk’s detention expired on Monday at 22:30 in line with Article 208 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Criminal proceedings into bribe taking, during which Romanchuk was detained, are investigated under Part 4, Article 368 (acceptance of a proposal, promise or obtaining improper advantage by official) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
