Ukraine’s former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko was defeated at her final stage of appeal against a conviction for abuse of office, as a senior member of the Kyiv government insisted the court’s decision had been fair.
Sergei Tigipko, a vice prime minister, said that while he understood the cased
posed great obstacles to Ukraine’s bid to integrate with the European Union,
there should be no doubt over Mrs Tymoshenko’s guilt.
“It is clear to us there is a clear violation,” he said in an interview with
the Daily Telegraph. “This was a criminal case, not a political case.”
