You're reading: Date of Osmayev extradition depends on Russia-Ukraine negotiations

The extradition of Adam Osmayev, the key suspected organizer of an attempt on Russian President Vladimir Putin' life, may last from a week to a month, depending on how this procedure will be agreed by Russian and Ukrainian services, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office said.

“Now that the court of appeals granted the Ukrainian Prosecutor’s Office request to extradite Osmayev to Russia, the final stage in the extradition is beginning. The Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office will inform the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office about this decision and the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office will instruct its penitentiary service to negotiate the time and place,” Yuriy Boichenko, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office told Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday.

And the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office will instruct the Interior Ministry’s security guards service to negotiate the time and place of extradition with Russia.

The Ukrainian penitentiary service will take Osmayev to the border, where he will be handed over to Russian services.

Asked how long all this may last, Boichenko said from seven days to four weeks, depending on how quickly the Russian and Ukrainian services will agree the extradition procedure.
