You're reading: Eight people injured in road accident near Rivne remain in hospital

RIVNE - Eight people, including six children, who were injured in a collision between a minibus and a truck near Rivne on Jan. 19, remained in hospital as of Friday morning, the press service of the Ukrainian Emergencies Ministry's office in Rivne region has reported.

According to specified data, a Volkswagen minibus was carrying 17 passengers, including seven children, and one child, born in 2001, died at the scene of the accident. All of them are residents of Rivne region.

The ministry said that the drivers of the minibus and a Renault truck had not been injured in the crash.

According to the office of the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry in Rivne region, six children aged between 10 and 15 years are currently in hospital.

The cause of the accident is being investigated. The question of opening a criminal case is being resolved.

According to preliminary data by law enforcement agencies, the driver of the minibus lost control of the vehicle and veered into the oncoming lane.

The accident occurred after 1700 on Thursday near the village of Velyka Omeliana, not far from Rivne.

According to initial reports, the minibus was carrying pilgrims from the Spring of Saint Anna in Zdolbuniv district (Rivne region).

Seven people died at the scene, and two more died in hospital.
