Rostov-on-Don, January 27 (Interfax) - Based on a long-term scientific forecast the southern regional center of the Emergency Situations' Ministry does not rule out minor earthquakes in the Black Sea area.

“In compliance with our request scientists from the Institute of the
Physics of the Earth of the Russian Academy of Sciences made a forecast
of seismic activeness in the Southern Federal District until 2020.
Earthquakes measuring over 6.2 points on the Richter scale are not
expected on the Black Sea Coast from Greater Sochi to Anapa,” first
deputy chief of the Southern Regional Center Robert Kireyev told the
press on Wednesday.

He added that minor destruction and cracks in individual buildings may appear after an earthquake measuring over 6 points.

Kireyev said that the forces and means of his center are ready to mitigate possible limited consequences of earthquakes.

Earlier reports said that an earthquake with its epicenter in
Abkhazia was registered in Sochi on Tuesday night measuring 5.5 points.
