Uzhgorod – There is no threat of avalanches for skiers in Zakarpattia region.

"None of Zakarpattia’s ski resort is in the area which may be affected by avalanches," an official of the regional branch of the Emergency Situations Ministry, Oleh Shramko, told Interfax-Ukraine.

The Emergency Situations Ministry warned earlier about the threat of avalanches in the highlands in Zakarpattia region on January 5-6.

However, Shramko said that the danger of being covered by an avalanche remains for those tourists who leave the boundaries of the resorts.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Emergency Situations Ministry reported that the water levels in the rivers of Zakarpattia region are expected to rise by 0.5-1.5 meters on January 5-6. Shramko said that this was happening due to the recent heavy rains in the region. However, in the next two days the rivers are unlikely to flood their banks, he added.
