You're reading: Energoatom to buy Holtec technology, equipment to build fuel storage facilities in Ukraine

State-run nuclear energy company Energoatom has ordered the development and deployment of modified spent fuel handling technology made by US-based Holtec International, for $299.971 million (without VAT). 

Holtec’s bid was accepted on December 12, 2014, reads Energoatom’s announcement in the Visnyk Derzhavnykh Zakupivel state procurements bulletin. The deadline for the delivery is set for December 31, 2020.

Holtec is to supply the following equipment for a centralized spent fuel storage facility in Ukraine: 81 MTsK-31 multi-purpose canisters, 13 MTsK-85 multi-purpose canisters, one HI-TRAC (Holtec International Transfer Cask), five HI-STAR (Holtec International Storage, Transport, and Repository) dry storage and transport systems, five railway platforms for HI-STAR, 94 HI-STORM (Holtec International Storage Module) dry storage and transport systems, and one set of auxiliary and technical equipment each.
