Ukraine's Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry by late January will prepare an analysis of the causes and circumstances of a Black Energy virus attack on three power supply companies, namely Chernivtsioblenergo, Prykarpattiaoblenergo, and Kyivoblenergo, deputy minister Oleksandr Svetelik has told reporters in Kyiv.

“Now we are conducting an analysis, we hope to get the results by the end of January,” he said.

According to the official, the problem is being examined by experts from the computing center of Ukrenergo, IT staff from the three affected power companies, including Chernivtsioblenergo, Prykarpattiaoblenergo, and Kyivoblenergo.

He added that a meeting with U.S. experts will be held late this week, who also plan to take part in the analysis.

“It is important for them because such a virus attack can be carried out not only on power companies but many other objects. This is very serious,” he said.

As reported, the Black Energy virus attack in late 2015 led to a power outage for a number of consumers of Prykarpattiaoblenergo.
