Ukraine's Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry has sent to the Secretariat of the Energy Community its model for the division of NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy, as well as the vision for the future of the gas sector in the country, Head of the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry's European Integration Department Mykhailo Bno-Airiian wrote on his Facebook page.

“We are looking forward to the results from our European partners, the result of their analysis of the model on the conformity with the regulations of the Third Energy Package… Given our model, I can say that it is as follows: we support the transfer of all the monopoly operators of energy resources transportation to the ministry [Ukrtransgaz, Ukrtransnafta]. Naftogaz should be transferred to the economy ministry, while Ukrgazvydobuvannia should be separated from Naftogaz and become an independent player, possibly with a subsequent partial sale,” he said.

According to the ministry, underground gas storage facilities should remain part of Ukrtransgaz.

“Maybe later… they will be operationally separated, but this should be subject of further research,” the expert said.

According to the ministry, Naftogaz should retain exclusively the functions of a trader.
