The EU mission to Ukraine has called on Ukrainians to refrain from using force just before police violently broke up a pro-European rally on the Independence Square in Kyiv.

The delegation said in a November 29 statement posted on its Web site that it took note of “the pro-European aspirations shared by a vast part of Ukrainian citizens” and urged “all sides to continue to remain calm and refrain from using force.”

As reported, early on Saturday the Berkut task force dispersed the protesters on the Independence Square in Kyiv.
