The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has received the confirmation from the EU Advisory Mission for the civil security sector reform that they will provide the necessary assistance in the investigation of the murder of journalist Pavel Sheremet.

“Pursuant to the president’s instruction to involve the EU into the investigation of the murder of journalist Sheremet, the Foreign Affairs Ministry received the confirmation of the readiness of the EU Advisory Mission, which is located in Ukraine, to provide the necessary assistance to law enforcement agencies under the mandate of the mission,” the Foreign Ministry’s press secretary, Mariana Betsa, told Interfax-Ukraine on July 20.

Sheremet was killed when a car he was driving blew up in central Kyiv on Wednesday morning. Law enforcement officials have reported the blast had been caused by an explosive device. According to media, the car belonged to Ukrayinska Pravda founding editor Olena Prytula, but she was not in the car.

Ukrainian prosecutors qualified the incident as premeditated murder.
