Yuriy Lutsenko, the leader of the Ukrainian organization Third Republic and former Ukrainian interior minister, has declared his return to politics.

“I did not stop my involvement in politics even when I was in jail.
Now I am returning to active politics,” Lutsenko said at a news
conference on Tuesday.

He said he has this opportunity now as his criminal record has been
cleared under recent legislation passed by the Verkhovna Rada.

Lutsenko said he is considering the possibility of running for Kyiv
mayor, an alternative being the establishment of a new party “of a
non-leader type based on the Maidan ideals.”
