Checks for corruption are being carried out at the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, according to a press release from NGO Transparency International Ukraine (TI).

“Once the volunteers of the Red Cross Society told TI Ukraine about numerous cases of humanitarian aid sales, we [TI] called on law enforcement agencies, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, as well as the company’s partners to intervene in the situation and pay attention to the facts of corruption made public by the accusers,” reads a statement.

The press release notes that the company under public pressure initiated internal audits. According to the results of internal checks on the activities of the Kyiv city organization of the Red Cross Society, its head Husev was dismissed. Later the head of the Solomianska district organization was fired, while the head of the Pecherska district organization in Kyiv submitted a resignation letter.

In addition to the dismissal of the heads of two local organizations, the decision was taken reprimand the heads of Desnianska, Obolonska and Pecherska district organizations, and to warn the heads of Holosiyevska, Darnytska, Dniprovska, Sviatoshynska and Shevchenkivska district organizations for improper conduct of work.
