You're reading: Financial Times: Tymoshenko verdict could spoil Yanukovych’s relations with EU and Russia

Roman Olearchyk in Kyiv and Neil Buckley in London write: "Seven years ago, Yulia Tymoshenko roused crowds of hundreds of thousands on Kyiv’s Maidan Square, as co-leader of Ukraine’s “Orange Revolution”. Now, she spends her days in a cramped Kyiv courtroom, her nights in a jail cell."

A verdict is expected within days that could put her in jail for up to 10 years. Such a scenario, according to the report, would "almost certainly provoke western condemnation"of President Viktor Yanukovych, who is widely accused of trying to sideline his political opponent. It would also "jeopardize Kyiv’s efforts to integrate closer with the European Union," the Financial Times reported.
