Ukrainian businessman Dmytro Firtash, the owner of private JSC Severodonetsk Azot (Luhansk region), is planning to provide financial assistance to Severodonetsk, according to a statement posted on the Web site of Luhansk Regional Council.

"I listened to all of the proposals from the city and regional authorities, and I can say that we will undertake a complete reconstruction of the Ice Palace, as well as the maintenance of the Severodonchanka volleyball team," Firtash was quoted as saying following his visit to Severodonetsk to mark the 60th anniversary of the chemical enterprise.

In addition, the businessman also promised to buy trolleybuses for the city.

"I know that your trolleybus fleet needs to be updated. We will purchase ten new trolleybuses for the city by the end of this year, and then over the next few years we will acquire the remaining (a total of 27 trolleybuses are required)," the businessman said.

The report also notes that Firtash decided to help clean the city.

"Dmytro Firtash also promised to consider the question of providing assistance in cleaning up Severodonetsk.

Two options are currently being considered: creating a utility enterprise on his own, or helping the city purchase the necessary equipment," reads the statement.

The businessman also stressed the importance of Severodonetsk Azot and its potential.

Firtash owns four out six Ukrainian nitrogen fertilizer producers: CJSC Severodonetsk Azot (Luhansk region), OJSC Rivneazot, OJSC Azot (Cherkasy) and public JSC Stirol Concern (Horlivka, Donetsk region). Only OJSC Dniproazot (Dniprodzerzhynsk) and OJSC Odesa port-side chemical plant are not under the control of Firtash.
