The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has advised Ukrainians to refrain from making tourist trips to a number of cities in Egypt because of the worsening security situation in the country.

“Due to the deteriorating security situation in Egypt and an increase in the number of cases of violence, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry advises Ukrainian citizens to refrain from tourist trips to Cairo, Alexandria, Aswan, Luxor, Taba, as well as the cities of Port Said, Suez, El Arish, Rafah and the North Sinai region,” the ministry’s information policy department reported on Thursday.

Ukrainian citizens who are now on holiday in the resort city of Hurghada, in order to avoid security threats, are recommended to holiday within the territory of the hotel and refrain from non-organized trips to the city and outside it.

Those who are on holiday in the resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh are advised not to travel to South Sinai and towards the city of Taba.

The Foreign Ministry advises all citizens of Ukraine who are in Egypt to refrain from visiting crowded places and participating in protests, demonstrations or other activities aimed at destabilizing the situation in the country. It is not recommended to enter into discussions with local people on issues that relate to the political situation in Egypt, religious preference or gender inequality.

“We draw the attention of Ukrainian citizens to the need to track the period of visa validity in order to avoid the threat of being detained for violating Egypt’s visa immigration regime,” the ministry said.
