The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has condemned the attack on the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi (Libya), in which the U.S. ambassador and several other U.S. citizens were killed.

“This awful crime, unfortunately, once again shows that the real security situation in Libya is far from what the international community tried to achieve through its actions against the country,” the director of the ministry’s information policy department, Oleh Voloshyn, said in an interview with Interfax -Ukraine.

“In these circumstances, we expect even more active support from our international partners for Ukraine’s efforts to free a group of Ukrainian citizens who, in our opinion, were unjustifiably convicted and are in custody in Libya,” he said.

The Foreign Ministry again advised Ukrainians to refrain from visiting Libya due to the real danger to their lives and health in this country.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry expressed its condolences to the families and friends of the victims and to the U.S. government.

“We are calling on the Libyan authorities to take all of the necessary measures to ensure the safety of foreign diplomatic missions accredited on the territory of this country, including the Embassy of Ukraine. We expect the Libyan side to conduct a complete investigation and bring to justice those responsible for the armed attack,” the ministry said.

As reported, U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens was killed on Wednesday Libyan militants stormed the U.S. consulate in Benghazi. Three more U.S. citizens, including two marines, were also killed in the attack.
