You're reading: Foreign Ministry: Kyiv not informed about whereabouts of missing Palestinian

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has not received official information from the Israeli embassy regarding the whereabouts of Dirar Abu-Sisi, a resident of the Palestinian Authority, who went missing from a train in Ukraine in mid-February, Foreign Ministry press secretary Alexander Dikusarov said.

"We have not received official information from the embassy of the State of Israel to Ukraine so far," Dikusarov said at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday.

It was reported earlier that Dirar Musa Abu-Sisi, director of a power plant in the Gaza Strip, boarded a Kharkiv-Kyiv train on February 18. Two hours later two men who produced IDs of special services officers took him off the train.

The Palestinian interior ministry sent an official inquiry into the disappearance of Abu-Sisi to Ukraine’s interior minister on Feb. 25.

Abu-Sisi is married to a Ukrainian and is a father to six children. He spent 12 years in Gaza and tried to get Ukraine’s citizenship.

A number of media reported on March 10 that Abu-Sisi is in an Israeli prison. Israeli authorities officially confirmed this report on March 21.

Ukraine’s police said that it did not detain Abu-Sisi. The Ukrainian Prosecutor’s General Office is probing the case.

The Ukrainian Interior Ministry sent a request seeking to establish the whereabouts of the Palestinian to Interpol’s office in Ukraine and a representative of Ukraine’s Interior Ministry in Israel, but did not receive an answer.

On March 22, Ukraine’s Security Service said that it did not carry out an operation to detain Abu-Sisi and did not have information that he had left Ukraine.
