The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine is attentively monitoring the situation with permission of dual citizenship in Poland.

“We are keeping a close watch on changes in the legislation of world countries, including those introduced in Poland,” the ministry’s spokesman Oleksandr Dykusarov said.

While commenting on the introduction of a new law on citizenship in Poland, which practically allows dual citizenship, Dykusarov recalled that the government regularly monitors the issue of acquiring citizenship of other countries by Ukrainian nationals, as it is directly related to the sphere of national security of Ukraine.

“Citizens of Ukraine should be aware that the issue is being controlled by law enforcement agencies,” he said.

A new law on citizenship took effect in Poland on August 15, 2012. The law in fact allows dual citizenship and simplifies the procedure of acquiring Polish citizenship by foreigners.

According to the media, more than 100,000 foreigners, including around 30,000 Ukrainians, legally live in Poland today.
