Ukraine as a mediator in the Transdniestrian conflict settlement is open to cooperation with the new leadership of the self-proclaimed republic, the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine has said.

"Ukraine is closely monitoring the situation in the Transdniestrian region of Moldova, including the results of the recent elections of the region’s leadership," the director of the Foreign Ministry’s information policy department Oleh Voloshyn said when asked by Interfax-Ukraine about the ministry’s position regarding the election results in Transdniestria.

According to him, Ukraine expects that this situation will have a positive impact on the settlement of the Transdniestrian conflict, which should be conducted only through peaceful means.
