The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine has confirmed that a Ukrainian citizen is among the crewmembers of an An-32 aircraft detained in South Sudan.

"We have passed relevant instructions to Ukraine’s embassies in Russia and Egypt, which will work on freeing the Ukrainian citizen," Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Oleksandr Dykusarov said during a briefing on Tuesday.

He added that the aircraft is owned by a local company, and the reason for the detention of the crew has not been reported yet.

Dykusarov said that the crewmembers are being kept in proper conditions, and they can move about in the building they are being kept in.

Earlier the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that on December 28, 2011 citizens of Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Sudan and Russia were detained in South Sudan. The detainees are the crewmembers of an An-32 aircraft of the Sudanese Park Air airline. The detainees have been in a military camp since being detained.
