Strasbourg – Ukraine's friends in the European Union are disappointed by MP brawls in the Verkhovna Rada and the fact that the MPs openly call each other liars and criminals, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule has said.
He mentioned that he often meets with representatives of the authorities and opposition, as well as young people who "openly spoke about their hopes and ambitions for their country."
"I would like to say that Ukraine’s friends are disappointed to see fights in the Verkhovna Rada and to hear that parliamentarians openly call each other liars or criminals. People in the EU are confused. They are asking themselves what constitutional, judicial, and other reforms in the sphere of justice could succeed in such an environment," the EU Commissioner said.
Fule admitted that "it is easy to say that [the country] needs the government that could create conditions for the opposition, so that it could play its role, while the opposition should play a constructive role in the issues of national interests."
"We would like to see the majority and minority working together," Fule said, expressing the EU’s hopes.
