You're reading: Government abolishes Naftogaz’s monopoly for imported gas sales

The Cabinet of Ministers has abolished the monopoly of Naftogaz Ukrainy on imported gas sales inside the country.

A relevant decision was stipulated in government decree No. 939 of October 3, 2012.

Prior to this, other companies could buy gas abroad and even perform its customs clearance in Ukraine, but formally only Naftogaz had the right to sell imported fuel in the country.

In addition, the Cabinet of Ministers by its resolution No. 939 obliged Naftogaz Ukrainy to provide guaranteed suppliers inside the country with gas.

According to the document, Naftogaz should form gas stocks for all categories of gas consumers in the country, and not just for the public, government institutions and religious organizations, as it did previously.

As reported, earlier the cabinet made Naftogaz a guaranteed supplier of gas for heat power producers and industrial plants consuming more than 3 million cubic meters of gas per year.

Gas supply and gas network connection enterprises operating at a regulated tariff (regional and city gas companies) are the certified suppliers of gas to households and small industrial customers.
