You're reading: Government approves protocol to agreement on cooperation in aircraft industry with Russia

Ukraine's government has approved a protocol on amendments and supplements to the agreement between the governments of Ukraine and Russia on cooperation in the development, production, supply and operation of aircraft engineering dated Aug. 20, 1997, which was signed in 2012.

Relevant government resolution No. 28 was issued on Jan. 23.

The protocol was signed at a meeting of the Russian-Ukrainian interstate commission’s committee for economic cooperation in Kyiv on June 27, 2012.

The document stipulates the further cooperation in working out and implementing long-term programs for the development and production of aircraft engineering, developing of the system of customer service, maintaining and strengthening scientific and industrial cooperation ties between the two countries’ aviation industries.

In December 2012, President and General Designer of the Antonov State Enterprise Dmytro Kiva said that the enterprise was preparing proposals for Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) to establish joint ventures in major projects of the Ukrainian-Russian cooperation in the aviation industry: the production of the An-124 heavy transport aircraft, the An-140 short-haul aircraft and the An-148 new generation regional jet aircraft.

Another key project in the two countries’ cooperation in aviation industry is the construction of the An-70 military transport aircraft. The program is carried out with the participation of the defense ministers of Ukraine and Russia.
