Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers has introduced amendments to the traffic rules of Ukraine that will match the law on road traffic.

According to government resolution No. 1029 of September 26, 2011, drivers do not need to have violation points cards and they do not need letters of attorney for driving, it is enough to have driver’s licenses and technical passports. Waybills and documents for cargo have also been excluded from the traffic rules.

The definition of the motor bike has been extended: now it can be a two-wheel vehicle not just with engine volume of at least 50 cubic centimeters, but also with an electric engine with power of four kilowatts. Drivers of motorbikes, as well as the drivers of motorcycles, must wear a clasped helmet when riding the machines.

Drivers are to show documents but not to pass them to the inspector of the State Traffic Patrol Department as was required earlier. According to new rules, the inspector may examine the technical conditions of the vehicle with the help of specialized devices.

The actions of drivers have been significantly simplified for non-serious car accidents in the presence of insurance, if there are no injured people or drunk drivers, and if only a joint letter about the accident is drawn up as per the example of the Motor (Transport) Insurance Bureau of Ukraine.

According to the amendments, it is necessary to reduce speed to 40 kilometers per hour near a non-moving vehicle at the side of the road that is displayed blue warning lights. Also, the required minimum age of drivers of buses, trams and trolleybuses is to be 21.

The European classification of vehicles and a number of another amendments have been introduced in the new version of the traffic rules.
