Deputy Prime Minister Viacheslav Kyrylenko has announced the formation of a government task force led by head of the State Service for Emergency Situations of Ukraine Mykola Chechotkin, which will deal with extinguishing the fire at the oil depot in Vasylkivsk district, Kyiv Oblast.

“The Cabinet of Ministers has set up a government commission lead by head of State Service for Emergency Situations Chechotkin. Additional funds will be allocated from the reserve fund for clean up and for those affected by the fire,” Kyrylenko wrote on Twitter on June 9.

A fire started at the oil depot of the BRSM-Nafta located in the village of Kriachky in Vasylkiv district on Monday evening. By June 9 morning, all 17 tanks at the depot were ablaze. A threat of the fire spreading to the forest and a nearby military base which has an arsenal of weapons. The threat of fire spreading further was later eliminated.

As a result of the fire and an explosion of one of the oil tanks, one person was killed and another 14, including seven employees of the State Emergency Situations Service of Ukraine, were injured. Contact with three rescue workers has not yet been restored.
