You're reading: GRECO urges Ukraine to step up efforts to ensure transparency in funding of the election

The Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) of the Council of Europe has urged Ukraine to step up its efforts to significantly increase transparency in the funding of political parties and election campaigns.

GRECO’s report which gives detailis on how Ukraine is implementing the
recommendations described in the Third Round Evaluation Report, was
posted on Wednesday.

GRECO concludes that Ukraine has implemented satisfactorily or dealt
with in a satisfactory manner only three of the sixteen recommendations
contained in its Third Round Evaluation Report.

“Of the seven recommendations that have been partly implemented and
the six that have not been implemented, most concern the second theme of
‘Transparency of Party Funding.’ GRECO urges Ukraine to step up its
efforts to significantly increase transparency in the funding of
political parties and election campaigns and to pursue the reforms
already initiated,” reads the report.

The Council of Europe said that recommendations from GRECO concerned
two distinct themes: regrets that the legal reform is incomplete and
partly inconsistent, and worries over the transparency of party funding.
