You're reading: Groysman supports extension of land sale moratorium

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Groysman has come out in opposition to the opening up of the land market.

“I consider it unacceptable today to open up the land market since there is no land market in Ukraine and this could be used for abuse and inefficient use of resources, which is a national treasure and belongs to the Ukrainian people,” he said at a meeting of the conciliatory council of the leaders of factions, groups and committees of the Verkhovna Rada.

Groysman instructed the profile committee to hold hearings on the issue and called for the extension of the moratorium on land sales until a quality system of resources management is created.

“I want to instruct the profile committee (we have six bills on this matter) to hold committee hearings on this issue and believe that the moratorium should be extended until we can build a quality system that would allow land owners to use it effectively, but not lose the opportunity to own their land due to financial transactions,” he said.

Earlier, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said he supported the experiment on public and transparent sales of state agricultural land at auctions.
