Health Minister of Ukraine Raisa Bohatyriova has been elected Vice President of the World Health Assembly (the higher management agency of the World Health Organization), the press service of Health Ministry has reported on Monday.

According to the report, the elections took place during a meeting of the World Health Assembly (WHA), which is being held in Geneva (Switzerland) on May 20-22.

“Being in Geneva, the health minister visited the headquarters of the World Health Organization, where she met with WHO Director General Margaret Chan. Bohatyriova also held talks with WHO Regional Director for Europe Zsuzsanna Jakab, Deputy Executive Director of the UNAIDS Program Luiz Loures, and with the heads of the departments of health of several European countries,” reads the report.

“Congratulating Raisa Bohatyriova on her appointment on the post of WHA Vice President, her colleagues from other countries noted that this was in recognition of Ukraine choosing the right way to reform its medical sector,” the press service of Ukraine’s Health Ministry said.
