Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryschenko thinks that the parliamentary election in October 2012 will prove to European partners that Ukraine is an efficient and competitive democracy.

"I believe that the election quality is the most important indicator of efficient and competitive democracy," he said in an exclusive interview with Interfax when asked about possible problems in the signing and ratification of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement.

All the partners will see from the 2012 parliamentary election campaign that Ukraine has the responsible authorities and the strong opposition, he said.

"In turn, the Foreign Ministry will do its best to make the election process a subject of quality and unbiased monitoring by international entities, which traditionally observe elections. I am confident that political prerequisites of our Western partners for slowing down the European integration aspirations of Ukraine will be gone after October 2012," he said.

Ukraine and the European Union said at the Dec. 19 summit in Kyiv that the Association Agreement negotiations, including those on the creation of a free trade zone, were complete. The EU said that the signing and ratification of the document would depend on the domestic political situation in Ukraine.
