You're reading: Imports of Ukrainian cheese could be curbed

MOSCOW - The Russian sanitary service has serious questions concerning the quality of Ukrainian cheese, whose imports could be curbed, Russia's chief sanitary official Gennady Onishchenko told Interfax.

"Nothing is impossible. If we see no change in this unconstructive provision the curbs could be enforced quickly enough," he said.

"We will act in strict accordance with our laws which allow us to react broadly to such violations, starting from the removal of products from stores to their seizure," Onishchenko said.

"Unfortunately, our contacts with Ukrainian counterparts have not brought about any results. We do not see any willingness to hold constructive talks. Instead, we hear unprofessional commentaries which have nothing to do with the subject of the discussions," he said.

Russia’s consumer rights watchdog Rospotrebnadzor announced on Monday that Ukrainian cheese companies violate Russian consumers’ rights by providing inaccurate information about their products’ ingredients.
