Interpol has declared former Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Eduard Stavytsky wanted on charges of "misappropriation, embezzlement or conversion of property by malversation, if committed in respect of an especially gross amount, or by an organized group," Interpol said on its Web site.

It was reported on March 24 that the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office had declared Stavytsky wanted.

The former minister is suspected of massive embezzlement, and searches were earlier conducted in premises related to Stavytsky as part of this investigation.

The Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office also conducted searches at Stavytsky’s apartment as part of an investigation concerning gas supply schemes. Media reported that Prosecutor General’s Office investigators had seized about 50 kilos of gold and $5 million from Stavytsky’s apartment on March 21.
