The introduction of electronic railway tickets in Ukraine will not affect the cost of travel, Deputy Head of State Railways Administration Ukrzaliznytsia Pavlo Chekalov said at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday.

“The pricing policy will not depend on the form of tickets,” he said.

Asked about the possibility of reducing the number of cashiers in connection with the introduction of electronic tickets, Chekalov noted that staff reductions are not expected in the near future.

“Today people got used to paper documents and rely more on tickets purchased at booking offices. I don’t think that in the short term the number of people buying tickets at railway stations and booking offices will sharply fall, therefore we do not plan to reduce the number of cashiers,” he said.

According to him, Ukrzaliznytsia will study the situation after the implementation of e-tickets.

“When we introduce this, we will study the situation, and if cashiers have not less work, we will not dismiss them. Definitely, if we do this sometime, we will seek jobs for these people, retrain them and so on,” said Chekalov.
