You're reading: Investigative Committee confirms three dead in An-2 crash in Orenburg region

YEKATERINBURG - A preliminary investigation has been launched into a crash of an Antonov An-2 aircraft which went missing in the Orenburg region on Saturday morning, the Urals Investigative Directorate for Transport of the Russian Investigative Committee said on Saturday.

Early data suggest that the plane flew out from the airport in the town of Sterlitamak for an overflight over an oil pipeline on the Sterlitamak-Akyar-Orsk-Akyar itinerary. There were three people on board: the aircraft commander, the co-pilot and a company representative.

“At 12:24 p.m. local time the aircraft commander reported to the air traffic control service at the airport in the town of Orsk about entering the northern circumference of the village of Akyar in the Republic of Bashkortostan, and at 12:46 p.m. contact with him was lost. The search for the missing aircraft was joined by rescue and emergency teams. The crash scene was discovered a few hours later. As a result of the accident, all people on board were killed, the frame of the aircraft is completely ruined,” the spokesperson said.
