Journalist Tetiana Chornovol, who was beaten on December 25, has said that she has not been asked if she agrees to be discharged from the hospital where she is undergoing treatment after the attack.

“Nobody has asked me if I agree to be discharged. The reports that I refused is an outright lie… I have serious head injuries, and severe consequences of the beating. At present, it will be difficult for me to work at the computer. As for the discharge, I want to ask [Health] Minister [Raisa] Bohatyriova, if I have a house where I can stay and at the same time guarantee my children’s security,” Chornovol told Channel 5 by phone on Tuesday.

Earlier on Jan. 7 Helath Ministry released a statement saying that Chornovol’s condition was good enough to leave the hospital but the journalist refused to do it.

“She has high temperature all the time. She walks just 10 meters and feels dizzy immediately,” Chornovol’s husband Mykola Berezoviy told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty

As reported, Chornovol was beaten in Kyiv region in the early hours of Wednesday. She was driving her car when she was cut off by a dark-colored car. Unidentified individuals pulled the journalist out of the car and beat her up, pushing her car into a ditch.

The police first opened criminal proceedings under part 2 of Article 269 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (disorderly conduct), which were later re-qualified for Part 2 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code (causing grievous bodily harm).

The police detained five suspects involved in the attack.
