Kharkiv Administrative Court has banned the Batkivschyna Party to set up campaign tents near Kachanivska Penal Colony No. 54 in Kharkiv, in which former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is currently held.

Valentyn Topchiy, the director of the department for cooperation with law enforcement agencies, defense, mobilization work and civil defense at Kharkiv City Council, confirmed this report to an Interfax-Ukraine reporter.

As reported, Kharkiv City Council on Wednesday asked the court to ban the mounting of campaign tents near Kachanivska Penal Colony No. 54 in Kharkiv.

"This is connected with repair works on the street, where the penal colony is situated," Topchiy told Interfax-Ukraine.

On October 11, 2011, the Pechersky District Court in Kyiv sentenced Tymoshenko to seven years in prison for abuse of office in signing a gas deal with Russia in 2009.

Tymoshenko has been in a pre-trial detention center in Kyiv since August 5, 2011. On December 30, she was transferred to the Kachanivska penal colony in Kharkiv.

On Wednesday, January 4, Tymoshenko’s supporters set up two tents of the Batkivschyna Party near the Kachanivska penal colony.
