Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said he urged lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual (LGBT) community to cancel gay parade in the Ukrainian capital.

‘I think that currently, when battle actions take place and many people die, holding entertainment events does not match the situation existing. And I am urging all these people not to do this. I think that this will be wrong amid these circumstances,’ Klitschko told reporters on July 4.

The mayor’s office has not received an application for holding equality march, which LGBT community intends to hold, Klitschko said. ‘No a single application for staging gay parade has come,’ he said.

Kyiv police has asked equality march organizers not to hold it on July 5.

According to the information of national LGBT portal of Ukraine, Kyiv Pride 2014 equality march is planned for July 5 morning. The organizing committee said volunteers were being enrolled to hold and ensure security of the event.
