Metalist Kharkiv has set the goal of winning the Ukrainian Premier League in the 2013/2014 season, the club's president, Serhiy Kurchenko, has said.

“The championship title is our main goal in the domestic league,” the club’s official Web site quoted him as saying in an interview with the club’s magazine on Thursday.

“The first half of the path is over, we are in the lead, but we all will have to work hard to achieve the final result. Despite the success already achieved, we realize that this is only the beginning of Metalist’s long journey.”

Kurchenko also promised to do all he could to get the club into the Champions League, which did not happen this season after a decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne in the case of the alleged fixing of a match between Metalist and Karpaty and the disqualification of the club from European competition.

After the first part of the season (18 rounds of the Ukrainian Premier League) Metalist took second place before the winter off-season, two points behind Shakhtar Donetsk, who top the table.
