Kyiv international airport (Zhuliany) on October 4, 2012 launched a new apron, the airport's press service has reported, referring to its director general, Oleksandr Nesterenko.

The press service said that the apron is located near the new international terminal A. The area of the apron is nearly 28,000 square meters.

The launch of the new apron allows the parking of six medium-haul aircraft of the Boeing 737 or Airbus A320 types. The increase in the number of aprons at the airport will allow it to develop, as in the the near term it is planned to increase the number of flights using the said planes.

The construction of the new apron was started in April 2012. After its commissioning, the number of aprons for medium-haul aircraft at Kyiv airport grew from four to ten. By late 2012, the airport also plans to start using a jetbridge at terminal A. It will allow passengers to get onto the plane without going outside. Now constructors are preparing the foundation for the placing of the jetbridge.

As reported, the airport in 2012 plans to service 800,000 passengers. Basic airlines of the airport are Wizz Air Ukraine and UTair Ukraine.

The airport has a runway 2,310 meters long and 45 meters wide and is certified according to ICAO Category I. The airport started using its new international passenger terminal on May 22, 2012.
