Kyiv Airport (Zhuliany) plans to continue the development of its infrastructure and in the next four or five years the airport will build another terminal to service domestic flights, a hotel, an office center and a parking area, reads a press release of the Ukrainian Infrastructure Minsitry, referring to first deputy director general for investment and coordination work with carriers at the airport, Oleh Petrovsky.

The details of the projects are not to be disclosed.

Petrovsky said that in 2012, the rise in passenger flow at the airport would be 70% on 2011 (469,800 people).

According to the report, the passenger flow at the airport during the hosting of the Euro 2012 European football championship grew by 19.5% compared to the usual period of operation of the airport, to around 78,000. The airport serviced the Swedish, English, French, Italian and Spanish teams.

On days when matches were not held, the airport serviced 1,500-2,000 passengers on international flights on average, and on days when matches were held – 2,100-2,500 passengers. 600-1,000 passengers per day arrived at the airport on domestic flights.

Earlier Master Avia Director General Oleksiy Yakovets said that the airport in 3-4 years could reach a passenger flow of 1.5 million people per year.

Kyiv’s Zhuliany airport is located on a site of 265 hectares. It has one runway 2,310 meters long and 45 meters wide. Its passenger terminal after reconstruction is able to handle up to 500 passengers per hour.
