The Kyiv city council has renamed Kominterna Street into Symon Petliura Street in Shevchenkivskyi district.

Seventy-six deputies with the required sixty-one voted for the decision.

The Kyiv city council has instructed the Kyiv city state administration to impose appropriate organizational measures to this effect.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Kyiv City Council’s Commission on Local Self-Government, Regional and International Relations and Information Policy recommended the Kyiv City Council to rename Kominterna Street into Symon Petliura Street.

The street got a new name to commemorate the memory of Symon Petliura, the army commander of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, the head of the Directorate of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, on the occasion of his 130th birthday anniversary to be celebrated in 2009.
