KOSOVO – The contingent of Ukrainian peacekeepers in Kosovo will not be reduced, Ukrainian Defense Minister Dmytro Salamatin has said.

"No, there will be no reduction. We’re not planning to do this," he said during a visit to Camp Bondsteel in Kosovo, where the Multinational Brigade East is located.

As reported, 134 Ukrainian nationals serve at NATO’s Kosovo Force (KFOR) in Kosovo. The main tasks of the Ukrainian peacekeepers in Kosovo include patrolling, monitoring unsafe areas, cooperating with UN mission representatives in the region and local governments to coordinate actions, as well as providing the local population with humanitarian aid.

In 2008, Kosovo unilaterally pronounced its independence from Serbia. Belgrade did not recognize the independence of Kosovo.
