The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has welcomed Russian Federation Council Chair Valentina Matviyenko's statement categorically denying the possibility of Russia's forcible intervention in the situation in Ukraine and vowed that the new Ukrainian government will start restoring friendly relations and partnership with Russia in the near future.

“We welcome Valentina Matviyenko’s statement that she considers it
impossible that the Russian Federation can use force in intervening in
the events in Ukraine and that she believes it is untimely to issue
Russian passports in Crimea,” Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman
Yevhen Perebyinis told Interfax on Wednesday.

“The present situation in Ukraine requires a restrained and
constructive approach for its resolution, and we welcome all
constructive statements on the part of our international partners,
including the Russian Federation, which would help us achieve as soon as
possible a resolution of the situation and form a government of the
people’s trust, which we believe will start resuming friendly relations
and partnership with Russia in the near future,” Perebyinis said.

It was reported earlier that, while taking questions from journalists
on Wednesday, Matviyenko absolutely ruled out the possibility of
Russia’s forcible intervention in the events in Ukraine.
