The new boss of Kyiv's troubled zoo starts work on Oct. 15.

31-year old Oleksiy Tolstoukhov, the son of the Minister of Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers Anatoliy Tolstoukhov, has been presented the job, which he held for four months during 2008.

"I’m still at my old job and have no plans to shake up the staff at the zoo. I’ll take a look at personnel issues after I formally assume the post. As for administrative matters, I will first need to go through the zoo’s paperwork," Tolstoukhov Jr. told journalists on Oct. 13.

Numerous recent deaths have earned Kyiv Zoo the reputation as one of the world’s worst, but investigations of wrongdoing have so far produced no criminal charges. The plans of the former zoo director, Svitlana Berzina, are unknown.
